In a concerted effort to put an end to the Monday sit-at-home protests in the South-East region, the leadership of the Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) and the Urban Drivers Welfare Association of Anambra State (UDWAAS) have reaffirmed their dedication to this cause.
The commitment to collaborate in bringing an end to the sit-at-home initiative was solidified during a meeting at the Traders’ Secretariat in Onitsha. The meeting was presided over by Chief Humphrey Anuna, the President General of ASMATA, and attended by the executive members of UDWAAS, led by President Moses Nwabueze.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Moses Nwabueze emphasized the detrimental impact of the sit-at-home protests on the people of Anambra and the wider South-East, particularly concerning trade and logistics. He stressed that drivers play a pivotal role in ending the protests and expressed their readiness to ensure transportation services are readily available to facilitate the resumption of normal business activities every Monday.
In response, the ASMATA President, Chief Humphrey Anuna, affirmed their unwavering commitment to fostering a peaceful environment for traders and attracting investors who have temporarily shifted their business operations to neighboring states due to uncertainties in the region. He highlighted the interdependence of traders and drivers in achieving this goal and reassured all stakeholders of their steadfast support in this endeavor.
