Priest of the Archdiocese of Onitsha and one of the speakers at a retreat held for couples at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Parish Onitsha,Very Rev Fr Sampson Ogbuebuna has told Catholic faithful to take the churches’ yearly retreats seriously as they lead to spiritual rejuvenation.
According to him,the retreats are all inclusive and for the faithful irrespective of class.
Rev Fr Ogbuebuna was reacting to the attitude of some faithful who hardly attend retreats.
He cited biblical instance of Zachaues whom he said that inspite of his richness, made efforts to establish contact with Jesus Christ by climbing a tree.
According to Fr Ogbuebuna, retreat is a period of facing reality.
“This is the time to tell ourselves the truth and facing reality of the moment through the eyes of the Gospel.
He described the period of Lent as the time when God rose from His throne to search for His people.
Fr Ogbuebuna pointed out that the Lenten period is a time to recharge our spiritual batteries inorder to begin to shine again and see things objectively.
Fr Ogbuebuna spoke on christian families and their duties to their families and the society. He described the family as the nucleus of the society such that the world will not be at peace when the families are in disarray.
He urged parents to go back to their families because, many ills of the society which include kidnapping, armed robbery and many other vices were perpetrated by children from various families.
