The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has appointed Rev. Fr. Leonard Ehiemere of the Diocese of Umuahia as the new National Director of the Directorate of Social Communications at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Abuja.
His appointment, alongside two other executive appointments, takes effect from September 1, 2026.
Ordained a priest of the Diocese of Umuahia in July 2006, Fr. Ehiemere brings to the national communications office extensive pastoral, academic and media experience.
He holds a Doctorate and Licentiate in Institutional Social Communication from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, in addition to earlier academic formation in Philosophy and Sacred Theology.
His professional experience combines advanced communication training with practical media leadership. During his formation, he gained broadcasting experience through an internship at the headquarters of Relevant Radio in the United States.
Before his new national assignment, Fr. Ehiemere served as Communications Director of the Diocese of Umuahia and Coordinator of Owerri Provincial Communication Directors. He has also served as Chaplain at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, and Acting Dean of the Ikwuano Deanery.
