The senator representing Anambra North Dr Tony Nwoye, Monday, led officials of the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA for an on-spot-assessment of the Onitsha-33-Nkwelle-Umueri-Aguleri-Omor-Adanni Expressway, raising hopes that the road will finally be taken up by the Federal Government, following the total collapse of the road. This has led to many rural communities and farmers not bringing their farm produce to the market.
Early in July 2023, Senator Nwoye had moved a motion on the floor of the Senate about the road, in which he sought an urgent Federal Government intervention on the road and also sent letters of appeals/request to the Minister of Works, as well as paid visits to the Ministry of Works and FERMA Headquarters for urgent repair/ rehabilitation of the road.
His efforts seemed to have paid off when he received the visiting team and went with officials of FERMA and the Federal Ministry of Works for on-the-spot assessment of the Onitsha-33-Nkwelle-Umueri-Aguleri-Omor-Adanni Expressway.
Dr Nwoye requested for repairs and maintenance of the road or total rehabilitation and reconstruction of the major part of the road which is impassable now.
Some of the Lawmakers who were on ground to receive the team were Barr Jude Umennaejiego (Odoakpu State Constituency); Hon Fred Ezenwa (Fegge State Assembly Constituency); Hon Pat Orjiakor (Onitsha North 2 Constituency) and newly declared state assembly member for Onitsha North 1, Hon Justice Azuka.
