The Sapientia International Media Centre,a parent company of Sapientia Radio and Television stations Onitsha,South East of Nigeria,is charting a new direction for Igbo nation to rediscover itself by reviving their moribund cultural heritage and values.
This initiative formed part of Sapientia Media 2023 Anniversary Lecture with the topic,”Igbo Renaissance and Identity:Between the Media and the rest of us”,which was held on Wednesday November 15,2023 at the Dolly Hill Hotel,3-3 Onitsha.
In his address of welcome,the Managing Director of Sapientia International Media Centre Onitsha,Rev Fr Aloy Orakwe,pointed out that the Igbo race is very unique and remains one of the most travelled,discussed, educated and successful in the world.
He however expressed regrets that there is the preponderance of moral decadence,disrespect for human life,crimes of all kinds, indecency,sexual perversion and worship of wealth in Igbo nation.
In finding solution towards Igbo cultural rebirth and consciousness,some prominent personalities in the academia and business who were present on the ocassion pointed the way forward.
They include the former Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service,Prof Uche Nworah who delivered the keynote address.According to him,it is the duty of the media to speak up against the rising vices among youths in Igboland.
In their various contributions,a business mogul and transport magnate,Chief Sir G U Okeke,Professor Obi Emeka Anthony,Professor Angela Nwammuo and Rev Fr Dr Fidelis Onwudufor pointed out the need for strong family orientation and training of children in various families,promotion of Igbo values and culture and use of the mass media in general education and enlightenment across the Igbo nation for revival of morals and values across the Igbo nation.
Other speakers include high chief Chukka Ifejika,the Onoli-Oguda of Onitsha Ado kingdom and Barrster Sir Damian Okolo.
One of the members of the Board of directors, Sapientia International Media Centre, Engr Sir Ikem Osanakpo gave the vote of thanks.
The event was well attended by people from all walks of life.
Highlight on the ocassion was unveiling of the Sapientia Anniversary Lecture series by Barr Obi Anizoba.
