Lecturer at Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu, Rev Fr John Bosco Okoye presided over the Mass of St Vincent de Paul at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Fegge Onitsha, Wednesday, 27th September, 2023 where he called on the faithful to imitate St Vincent De Paul in attending to the needs of their neighbours explaining that everyone is challenged in their own ways.
His words, “It is your responsibility as a Christian to help others. Learn the spirituality of Christ because He is your Model. St Vincent de Paul dedicated his life to the service of others. The priests in his congregation and members of St Vincent de Paul Society care for the poor in a special way. As Christians, we are to learn the virtues of Christ – care, humility and hospitality.
We do not have the fullness of capacity. So, it is not only the poor that we should assist. More comes to you when you give good things to others. Child of God, decide to serve God. Be the salt and light to the people and the nation.”
Fr Okoye conditioned that they miss the point is their service is not tailored towards the salvation of souls even as he urged them to work towards a favourable judgement because everyone will give account of their lives on earth.
