Professor Obiajulu Emejulu FNIPR, MNAL, FLiPAN, a distinguished son of Awka Etiti and the Executive Director of the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN), has launched the Omenka app, an innovative tool aimed at promoting and preserving the Igbo language and culture.
Professor Emejulu, known for his scholarly work and cultural advocacy, has dedicated his expertise to creating this groundbreaking platform. The Omenka app offers a comprehensive suite of features designed to enhance proficiency in the Igbo language. It includes a word search, an extensive word list, proverbs, and poems, all aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the language.
The app also features a news section that provides authentic and verifiable information related to the Igbo community, covering important historical facts and contemporary events. Additionally, the connect zone allows users to engage with each other, fostering a sense of community and shared cultural heritage.
For Igbo business owners, the app includes a business section where they can advertise their ventures, promoting economic development within the community. An interactive Igbo calendar highlights significant events and moon phases, dating back to 1915 and extending 40 years into the future. The traditional town hall feature offers a digital space for users to share their sociocultural experiences through texts, audios, and videos.
