A Cardio Thoracic Surgeon at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika-Zaria and spokesperson for St Martin De Porres Hospital Wusasa Zaria – property of the Catholic Diocese of Zaria, Prof Sunday A. Edaigbini has enlightened Catholic faithful of the diocese on the need to register their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) with the hospital.
Sensitizing the congregation at Christ the King Catholic Cathedral (CKCC), Sabon Gari Zaria, the surgeon assured them that the hospital has a very good insurance scheme, noting that the scheme is primarily very beneficial to those in the informal sector. The don itemized some of the benefits for individuals and families as referral of special cases to other hospitals, particularly to ABUTH; free general medical evaluation, mostly for those above the age of forty; and annual checkups.
Prof. Edaigbini disclosed that though yearly registration fee has increased from about ₦15,000.00 to about ₦20,000.00, it offers one the opportunity to nip any aberration in the bud before it gets beyond salvaging.
He also informed them that enrolling with the hospital will help the diocese to sustain the growth of the facility since a certain percentage of the money that one registers with will go to the hospital, while a certain percentage will go to the government.
