Contrary to reports that went viral on the social media, the Management of the popular ABC Transport Company, says none of the buses in the company’s fleet was hijacked by Kidnappers and that no passenger was kidnapped on the evening of Monday 5th January, 2024.
Reports had gone viral on social media about the hijacking and kidnapping of passengers in two ABC Transport buses along with others en-route Abuja, a development that sent panic across many travelers using that route.
But reacting to the story, the company, in a statement, said although there was an ugly incident that affected one of its buses and others belonging to other companies, none of its buses was hijacked and taken away alongside passengers as alleged by the social media post.
The statement read: ‘ABC Transport PLC would like to address and clarify the recent information circulating on social media regarding an incident involving our luxury buses.
‘Contrary to the misleading information being shared, there is no truth to the claims that our luxury buses were hijacked, and passengers were held hostage. We want to assure the public that such reports are overstated and do not reflect the actual situation.
‘What did occur was at about 1:30pm on Saturday, 3rd February, 2024, at a Village called Ayele Adumu, in Olamaboro LGA of Kogi State. Unknown persons blocked and attacked oncoming vehicles and amongst which was an ABC vehicle en-route Enugu to Abuja with two passengers. The two passengers and the bus driver were led into the bush alongside other passengers of other vehicles and have since been held hostage.
‘ABC Transport is actively cooperating with relevant security agencies to resolve the matter as swiftly as possible. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our passengers and pilot, and we are taking all necessary measures to ensure a prompt and thorough resolution to the issue at hand.
‘We understand the concerns raised by the public due to the misinformation, and we urge everyone to rely on official statements from ABC Transport for accurate and up-to-date information. Our team is working tirelessly to provide updates as the situation unfolds.
