The member representing Anambra East Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Obi Nweke, has condemned the recent communal clash between Nneyi Umueri and Enugwu Nsugbe Communities both in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The communities who share boundaries have fallen apart over a perennial land dispute.
The recent clash led to the death of two persons while some others sustained injuries, with many houses and property also destroyed and set ablaze. Residents of the villages have fled their homes due to the crisis.
Honourable Nweke explained that the present administration led by Professor Chukwuma Soludo had done much to maintain peace, tranquility, development and progress in communities and wondered why the two communities would not exercise patience and allow the rule of law to prevail.
The lawmaker decried the communal clashes in the constituency, saying that the area witnessed slow development because of communal conflicts and urged the members of the communities to support the Soludo Administration to entrench peace in the area.
Honourable Nweke promised to ensure that peace was restored to the communities and called on stakeholders in the communities to take the bull by the horns and ensure that all the bickering and unnecessary wars came to an end.
He also called on the traditional rulers of the communities and Presidents General to facilitate the pursuance of peace and dialogue, emphasizing that the sanctity of human life remained a major part of the Igbo philosophy.
