The Catholic community in Nnobi on Saturday September 14th, 2024 came together to celebrate a remarkable milestone as Reverend Father Mike Okoye marked 50 years of dedicated service in the priesthood.
The golden jubilee celebration, held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Nnobi, was attended by Bishop Denis Isizoh of Aguleri Diocese, dozens of priests, religious, parishioners and dignitries who gathered to honour Fr. Okoye’s unwavering commitment to God and humanity.
Speaking at the anniversary Mass, Bishop Isizoh noted that Fr. Okoye has spent five decades spreading the Gospel, providing spiritual guidance, and serving the faithful, adding that his selfless devotion has touched countless lives, earning him respect and admiration from our immediate society and beyond.
The rector St Pius x Spiritual year Seminary Akwu- Ukwu Rev Fr Celestine Umeh who spoke to Trinitas Newspaper shortly after the Mass described the jubilarian as an image of Christ who is simple, wise, composed and enduring. Fr Okoye he further noted is known for his supper excellence, stating that his priestly life is characterized by goodness and compassion.
A community member Lord Dr Mike Omenugha while congratulating the celebrant posited that the golden jubilee celebration of Fr. Mike Okoye’s priesthood is a testament to his enduring legacy and commitment to serving God and humanity.
Others who spoke to the press disclosed that Fr. Okoye’s 50 years in the priesthood is a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication. ” We celebrate his remarkable service and commitment to God’s people.
Fr. Okoye has been an inspiration to our community. His selflessness and compassion have made a lasting impact on our lives”, they explained .
The jubilarian in his speech thanked all that came to celebrate with him asking God to bless them. His words : “I am humbled by God’s grace and mercy. Fifty years ago, I embarked on this journey, and today, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve. I pray that my experience and wisdom may continue to inspire and guide others to follow Christ without any single doubt and make heaven at the end of their earthly sojourn.
Highlights of the event includes cutting of the anniversary cake, presentation of High Lander Toyota jeep and other gifts to Fr. Okoye. Cultural performances and other entertainment programmes were on display to spice up the occasion .
