The Catholic Church all over the world on Sunday,1st December 2024 began a new liturgical year referred to as the first Sunday of Advent. It is a time when christians prepare for the second coming of Christ and what they needed to do to be ready for His return.
At the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha, the Rector of the Basilica,Very Rev Fr JohnBosco Ezika urged christians to be mindful of how they celebrate and conduct themselves during the yuletide since according to him, what is most important in the life of a christian is his soul which must be properly taken care of and accounted for in the last day.
According to him, christians must be prepared to take care of their souls just as they do to the body.
He emphasised that during festive seasons like Christmas, christians should develop a scale of preference and place prayers first on their choice before other things.
He urged the faithful to resolve to give God 10 minutes in prayers every day, pointing out that it is only by the grace of God that they can do many things.
He further urged the privileged to try and encounter God in the lives of other people by doing charity works and showing little kindness to others around them.
“Try and make out time for God and ensure you include Jesus Christ in your plans this Christmas”,the Rector urged.
The Rector concelebrated with the immediate past Rector of the Basilica,Very Rev.Monsignor Francis Ezumezu.
Highlight on the mass was a special thanksgiving by some parishioners.
