In the midst of a political tussle in Rivers State, Daniel Bwala, the former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, has offered advice to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Bwala suggests that Governor Fubara should respond assertively to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike’s efforts to remove him from office by leveraging his executive authority.
The situation has unfolded as 24 out of the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. This impeachment process was initiated with the endorsement of pro-Wike lawmakers. In response, Governor Fubara rallied the support of eight lawmakers loyal to him, who subsequently declared Ehie Edison as the new Speaker of the House of Assembly. Following this, the lawmakers issued an order for the removal of the state’s Chief Judge. The Chief Judge’s role would have been to establish an investigative panel against Governor Fubara once instructed to do so by the pro-Wike lawmakers.
In a social media post, Daniel Bwala expressed his view on the situation, stating, “Sim Fubara should use the full weight of his executive powers to run Wike out of town. Our democracy does not recognize authoritarianism. The person voted as the executive Governor and Chief security officer of Rivers State is Fubara. @officialABAT (Bola Atinubu) is urged to be extremely careful with Wike before Wike ruin his government’s image both locally and internationally. PBAT should sack Wike without delay.”
There are also reports indicating that Governor Fubara has relieved his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi, of his duties, along with other individuals previously appointed by Wike. Chidi Amadi had previously served as the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs under Wike’s administration.
