As the annual Communications Week (ComWEEK) marks its third year, the Social Communications Directorate of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) announces a new addition to its week-long media literacy program – the ComWEEK Public Lecture. Set to debut on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the CSN Resource Centre in Abuja at 10 am, this event promises to be a highlight of the festivities.
Aligned with the theme designated by Pope Francis for the 2024 World Communications Day (WCD), the inaugural lecture will explore the theme: “Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Opportunities for Evangelization and Social Development.” Reverend Father Professor Anthony Akinwale, OP, will deliver the keynote address, while a distinguished panel of discussants including Reverend Father Uche Obodoechina of the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (CCFN), Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, Executive Director of Media Career Development Network, Lagos, and Reverend Sister Dr. Florence Osho, EHJ, from a major seminary in Ibadan, will provide insightful perspectives on the topic.
The event will be graced by eminent personalities, with Most Reverend Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), delivering the Keynote Address. John Cardinal Onaiyekan will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON, President of the Nigerian Senate, will chair the occasion.
Anticipating a diverse audience of over 500 participants, including industry leaders, dignitaries, students, journalists, tech experts, media enthusiasts, and church representatives, Rev. Father Michael Nsikak Umoh, the National Director of Social Communications and Convener, expresses enthusiasm for the impactful discussions and insights that will emerge from the lecture.
