The Onitsha Archdiocesan Pontifical Mission Society (PMS) has celebrated the Holy Childhood Day at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Valerian Okeke presided over the mass and was represented by the Onitsha Archdiocesan Chancellor,Very Rev Fr Dr, Prudentius Emeka Aroh.
In his opening remarks,the Chancellor highlighted the Archbishop’s love for little children,saying that the Archbishop does not spare any resource in seeing to the welfare of children.
Children he pointed out,are precious gifts from God and therefore deserving to give thanks to God for His gift.
Delivering his homily,the Assistant Secretary to the Archbishop,Rev Fr Kingsley Omenyi,preached on the importance of children in the family and God’s intension that no child should be abused or meant to go astray.
He pointed out that innocence of children bring them closer to God and make their prayer requests answered by God easily.
Fr Omenyi admonished children to always be honest in their behavior,help their parents at home and be prayerful always.
A pupil of St Joseph School,Awka Etiti,miss Chimere Mary-Prisca Oluebube was awarded one year scholarship by the Archbishop for rendering an address perfectly.
She also got a N10,000 cash awards from the PMS Director,Aguleri Diocese,Rev Fr Tochukwu Ughammadu.
In her remarks,the Onitsha Archdiocesan Director of PMS,Rev Fr Benedeth Okoli thanked Archbishop Valerian Okeke for his support to the PMS.
The HCA kids rendered special prayers for the successful take off of the new Shanahan University.
The Episcopal Vicar,Onitsha Region,Very Rev Fr Victor Mbanisi,Rev Fr Nnamdi Okpalaugo,Sr Maria Ikenna Igwe and animators of the HCA were present at the mass.
The event featured many activities by the HCA including march-past and cultural displays.
