Some supporters of Enyimba Football Club of Aba have expressed optimism that the club would do well in the upcoming Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the CAF Confederation Cup competition.
The supporters, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba on Thursday, said the club has all it takes to finish well in the domestic and continental leagues.
NAN reports that Enyimba relinquished the Nigeria League they won in 2022/2023 to their neighbours, Rangers International in 2023/2024 and finished third to grab a Confederation Cup slot.
Augustine Ezenwata, said the current administrator, Nwankwo Kanu , an ex-international has exposed the players to both local and international club friendlies.
“From the preseason friendlies so far, we saw new players who did well in their previous clubs, and I am sure they will do well in the domestic League.
“My fear is about the newly recruited players if they can withstand the pressure that comes with the competition,“ he said.
Uche Adindu said that if the club remains determined and players’ welfare is prioritised, they will do well in the leagues.
“Enyimba has been a regular customer in the continental league and knows what it takes to excel in the league.
“We only need to expose the players to high-profile friendlies, not minding the outcome but the technical team needs to work on identified lapses in the team,”Adindu said.
A supporter, Chinechere Okorie, said there was a need for the technical crew to beef up the team`s attacking position to guarantee goals.
“I know it is not going to be an easy task in the continent, the players need to believe in themselves while the management makes proper arrangements for their away matches,” she said.
Coach Godwin Uduma of United Stars Academy, urged the organisers of the domestic league to start the league on time to keep the players in good shape.
“I believe in Enyimba to win the Nigeria League and conquer Africa this time around at the CAF Confederation Cup competition, ” Uduma said.
