The Archbishop of Onitsha cum proprietor of the prestigious Shanahan University Onitsha His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke last Sunday pledged to offer 100 scholarships and 500 partial scholarships for best candidates in the West African Examination Council ( WEAC) and Joint Matriculation Examination Board ( JAMB) who are seeking for admission into Shanahan University.
The prelate who made the pledge during his pastoral visit to SS John and Paul Parish Iba Pope Awada on Sunday, stated that 100 candidates will enjoy 100% free tuition fee throughout their study in Shanahan University while another 500 candidates will enjoy partial scholarships. He advised candidates seeking admission into Nigerian Universities to choose Shanahan University as their first choice in order to stand a chance of benefitting from the scholarship scheme and as well get the best university formation.
He made it clear that one of the reasons for establishing the university is to give the right opportunity to serious students who are excelling in their academics to gain good university education whether they are from poor or rich background, stating that with Shanahan University, money cannot be a hindrance to their studies. ” Shanahan University will give brainy and serious minded students the golden opportunity to receive university education and excel in life” The prelate enjoined faithful to continue to pray for Shanahan University and give every support within their reach.
On the other hand , the Vice Chancellor of Onitsha Archdiocese and Chairman, Shanahan University project Very Rev Fr Dr Basil Ekwunife who later granted a media chat with Trinitas Newspaper on this, revealed that Shanahan University has gotten all the approval including license to operate as full fledged university, stating that Shanahan University will commence full academic activities in October for 2024/2025 academic session.
He posited that judging from academic precedence of Onitsha Archdiocesan schools, no one can be in doubt that school operated by the church are progressing very massively. “In essence, one can infer that university being operated by Onitsha Archdiocese will equally progress the way our secondary schools are progressing. In other words, any student who gained admission into Shanahan University for a four or five years degree programme will graduate at record time. Shanahan University is poised to provide the facilities and make a stable system so that students will graduate as when due. Shanahan University is guaranteeing top notch university education, quality and lecturers and conducive environment for learning”.
Fr Ekwunife further enjoined parents who would like their wards to be properly and completely formed educationally, morally and otherwise to encourage their children to study in Shanahan University as they stand to get best university education one can think of.
