The sad story of collapse of a massive five storey building under construction inside the Denis Memorial Grammar School(DMGS),Onitsha,has sent panic across the city.
The building which overlooks the DMGS roundabout and Awka Road,Onitsha,was nearing completion and already roofed before it collapsed Tuesday night.
As at time of this report,Trinitas observed many people viewing the wreckage of the building while the school authorities prevented anyone from going into the compound.
Emergency responders were seen running helter-skelter but no information on any casualty was released.
However,students were not seen around because they were said to be on break.
The fate of the construction workers said to be sheltering under the building is yet unknown.
Meanwhile,the Anambra state Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo has visited the scene to access the damage.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Charles Soludo through Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim said, we are putting up everything we have, ministry of works, ministry of health, the emergency and the entire government officials were present on rescue mission.
Dr. Ibezim assured that, they will investigate the cause of the incident and make recommendations on how to prevent future occurrence.
He thanked all first responders and those that joined the rescue efforts.
