Shanahan University Onitsha today witnessed a historic moment as students turned out in large numbers to elect a new leadership team for the Students’ Union Government (SUG). After weeks of rigorous campaigning and intense anticipation, the results have been announced, ushering in a fresh chapter of student representation.
In the keenly contested elections, Chika Chibuzor John emerged as the new SUG President, securing the mandate to lead the student body. Joining him in leadership is Mgbekwute Prisca Chinaza, who was elected Vice President, while Iji Johnbosco Somtoochukwu clinched the position of General Secretary. Several other key offices were also contested for, with students actively participating in the democratic process.
Reflecting on the significance of the elections, the Shanahan University Onitsha (Chaplaincy), a major Facebook handle affiliated with the institution, described the event as a defining moment for the university’s leadership. In a statement released on its page, it congratulated the winners and urged them to serve with integrity, wisdom, and a deep commitment to the student body.
“Your fellow students have entrusted you with a great responsibility. May your tenure be marked by wisdom, service, and a commitment to making Shanahan University a better place for all,” the statement read. It also commended those who contested but did not win, emphasizing that leadership goes beyond holding an office and that their efforts and courage were deeply appreciated.
The post further celebrated the students who participated in the elections, recognizing them as the true drivers of change. “Your participation made this election meaningful, ensuring that the leadership of our university is a reflection of the voices, hopes, and aspirations of the student body,” it stated.
