Pope Francis has confirmed his intention to meet with Argentine President Javier Milei during the canonization of Blessed María Antonia of St. Joseph on February 11 in Rome. The Pope expressed his readiness to initiate a dialogue with President Milei, despite the insults directed at him during the election campaign, emphasizing that campaign words come and go.
The meeting is scheduled to take place before the canonization in the sacristy, following the customary greeting of authorities. Pope Francis mentioned that he accepted Milei’s request for a meeting and is open to engaging in a dialogue, stating, “I am willing to start a dialogue, talking and listening, with him. As with everyone.”
President Milei had publicly invited Pope Francis to visit Argentina a few weeks ago, expressing hope that the Pope’s presence and message would contribute to the unity of the nation. While the Pope acknowledged the possibility of a trip to Argentina, he mentioned that its organization has not yet begun. However, he confirmed upcoming visits to Belgium and a tour in August, including stops in Indonesia, East Timor, and Papua New Guinea.
