As Pope Francis continues his recovery at Gemelli Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment for a respiratory infection for the past 13 nights, the Vatican has shared a heartfelt message he recently wrote to a bereaved mother.
Vatican officials confirmed Thursday morning that the pope “slept well overnight” and that his condition is improving, though they remain cautious about his prognosis. Despite his hospitalization, a letter he wrote to a grieving mother, Cinzia, has come to light, offering words of comfort and faith. Her 21-year-old son disappeared after a night out in 2019 and never returned home.
“Jesus, who weeps with us, will sow in our hearts all the answers we seek,” the pope wrote, providing a message of hope in her time of sorrow.
Meanwhile, prayer vigils for the pope’s recovery continue, with a special holy rosary scheduled for 9 p.m. tonight in St. Peter’s Square, led by Cardinal Baldassare Reina.
Due to the pope’s ongoing treatment, the Vatican has also announced the cancellation of the jubilee audience originally planned for Saturday, March 1.
