The Anambra Spirit has always been defined by a relentless “can-do” attitude, a spirit that refuses to accept limitations or settle for mediocrity. In Anambra, we don’t just strive to be mediocres; we aim to be the best.
It was this same indomitable spirit that inspired the people of Nnewi in the aftermath of the civil war. Rather than rebuilding their lives in other communities where they could become easy targets at the slightest provocation, they chose to build their markets and industries at home. At the time, it was an unconventional decision, but history has since vindicated that wisdom.
That same drive has propelled Anambra to the pinnacle of various human development indices. Our entrepreneurial community has become the engine room of our advancement, conquering the trade and commerce landscape of Nigeria. Today, private individuals in Anambra build roads, schools, and hospitals, often outpacing the government’s efforts. This sets a new benchmark and calls for a more visionary, more responsive government.
It was this spirit that inspired Paul Chukwuma, five years ago, to begin the ambitious construction of roads across his Nneye community in Umueri, Anambra East. It wasn’t for politics or applause. It was the Anambra spirit in action: the will to do more, to lead by example, and to solve problems before complaining about them.
But while Anambra citizens continue to raise the bar, the Soludo-led government at Agu-Awka has sadly lagged behind. After three years in office, the administration’s major performance claim remains the construction of a few kilometres of road, with many of questionable quality. Never in our recent history has a governor delivered so little, even while having so much at his disposal.
For Ndi Anambra, development can no longer be measured by road construction alone. Our people want an economically viable Anambra, a state where young talents can thrive without having to migrate to western Nigeria in search of opportunities. We can not continue to allow Western Nigeria to harvest our brightest minds while our government remains amused with amusement parks
Anambra needs a new kind of leadership, bold, youthful, and ambitious. A leader in the mould of Paul Chukwuma. We need a governor who understands the urgency of economic transformation and is prepared to drive aggressive reforms, particularly in energy to power the emergence of manufacturing clusters across the state.
That’s why in February 2024, Paul Chukwuma visited Geometric Power in Aba not for photo ops but to study a working model of private sector-led power generation and how it can be replicated in Anambra
Because what Anambra needs is big business — businesses that retain jobs, create wealth, and significantly grow our internally generated revenue without resorting to extortion or enabling the Agbero system of Gov. Soludo where citizens are brawn beaten daily while the government remains silent, in support of their oppresors.
Unfortunately, the current government seems overwhelmed by the expectations of Ndi Anambra and has fallen back into the comfort zone of mediocrity. It lacks the Anambra spirit.
It is time to shift gears. It is time to hand over leadership to someone who exemplifies excellence and who embodies that resilient Anambra spirit. Paul Chukwuma is not a politician of words, he is a man of action, excellence, and results.
