The Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, says Nigeria can change its narrative of woes if the right people are recruited into governance at all levels.
He added that the change would only be achieved through collaboration or collective efforts.
Obi, according to a statement on Sunday, expressed these views when he met with some Nigerians in the diaspora during his “Thank You Tour,” of the United States.
The statement was jointly signed by the Coordinators of the PONewNigeriaProject, Dr David Ogula, Dr Moses Paul and Mrs Ndidi Mbagwu.
It quoted the former Anambra State governor as describing as impactful his US tour and the enlightening lecture he delivered at Harvard Law School.
“Nigerians can overcome current challenges, embrace opportunities, and create a nation where every citizen thrives.
“As we embark on the journey ahead, let us carry with us the lessons learned, the bonds forged, and the unwavering resolve to build a brighter future for Nigeria.
“Together, we can overcome challenges, embrace opportunities, and create a nation where every citizen thrives. Thank you for your unwavering support, and let us continue to move forward with courage, compassion, and hope.”
He noted that from engaging in discussions on the state of the nation to exploring pathways forward, “every moment was filled with hope, determination, and a shared vision for a better tomorrow”.
He stated further that the question and answer session at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, reaffirmed the commitment of Nigerians in the Diaspora to making a difference in the lives of others.
He added, “Together, as a community united by shared values and aspirations, we have the power to shape a future defined by compassion, opportunity, and justice for all.
“The interactive Questions and Answer session and Thank You Tour in Boston, Massachusetts on April 13, 2024, provided a platform for meaningful dialogue with members of the ‘Obidients’ family and the new Nigeria die-hards in Massachusetts.
“Together, we delved into pressing issues and charted a course towards positive change, fuelled by a collective commitment to progress and unity”.
He further explained that as they gathered at the Life Christian Church Auditorium in West Orange, New Jersey, alongside the Obidient family, the spirit of resilience and optimism resonated deeply.
According to him, Dr. Nexus Sea and the #Nijawecanteam from NYC/NJ epitomised the power of community and solidarity in driving meaningful transformation.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to those whose dedication and passion inspired them to strive for excellence and make a positive impact in their communities.
“The many other group meetings and discussions created deeply meaningful dialogues and connections, each contributing to our shared journey of growth and progress,” he added.
