In appreciation of motherhood and the positive roles mothers play in various families and the society in general,the Catholic Church dedicated last Sunday,4th April 2024 to celebrate mothers otherwise known as Mothering Sunday.
This is happening as members of the CWO at St John Parish Oba,hosted the Director General of CWO, Archdiocese of Onitsha,Dame Ngozi Nwanosike on Mothers Day.
The theme of this year’s Mother’s Day,according to Dame Nwanosike,is,”Motherhood: A sacred and supreme vocation”.
In a two page message released to mothers across the Archdiocese,the Director Dame Nwanosike,reminded mothers of the teachings of the church about motherhood and relevance of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a role model to mothers.
Defining Motherhood,Dame Nwanosike said that,”A mother is someone who says “yes” to the call to raise her children or child in love.
According to her,the primary role or vocation of a mother is to nurture and protect her children.She helps to form their values and is a major influence on their emotional and spiritual being.
While being hosted,Madam Director joined in the special thanksgiving with some members of her executive which included the Secretary General of the CWO, Archdiocese of Onitsha,Lady Chika Obike.
At the reception,members of the CWO,St John Parish Oba,presented various prizes and awards to their diligent members and zones who performed well in activities preceding the Mothering Sunday.
Dame Nwanosike commended the Parish Priest of St John Parish,Oba for assisting the women and creating enabling environment for the CWO to flourish in the parish.
She also commended the officiating Rev Fr Philip Osakwe.
Highlight on the occasion was presentation of awards and prizes to various winners of CWO activities.
