The Labour Party of Nigeria has appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee of the party.
Her appointment was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, on Wednesday.
Also, former Senate Minority Deputy Leader, Senator Darlington Nwokocha from Abia Central was appointed to serve as the Secretary of the 29 member committee, expected to complete its task in 90 days.
The Caretaker Committee has been charged with the responsibility of rescuing the party from its current leadership crisis, and organize a convention where a new leadership of the party would emerge from the Ward to the national stage.
Mr Peter Obi; his running mate, Datti Ahmed; Senator Victor Umeh; the party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, Rhodes-Vivour, were among the party chieftains present at the meeting hosted by Governor Alex Otti.
Meanwhile, this appears to be a game over for Barrister Julius Abure, the Labour Party national chairman whose tenure in the party has been marred with so much controversy in the last two years.
