As the internet age has continued to turn the world into a global village with its merits and demerits, parents recently advised to pay more attention to their children and monitor their activities around the internet connected gadgets.
Rev Fr Pius Ejiofor of Holy family parish Akuzor Nkpor gave the advice while preaching a Sunday Homily.
According to him, the internet age which has turned the world into a global village has constituted a challenge to the upbringing of our children, because of the nature of contents it presents to the public through various platforms such Facebook, Tick-tock, Instagram, Whatsapp etc, positing that to an extent, it is responsible for the moral decay and other evils the society is witnessing today.
Fr Ejiofor further posited that any child exposed constantly to the internet world via the various platforms mentioned can easily copy and imitate the content he or she was exposed to. He therefore called on parents to pay more attention to their children in respect of their internet activities as new world ( internet )is posing great challenge to child upbringing .
” On other hand, Parents should also make attempt to know the whereabout of their children all the time and ask them questions in order to find out on time whenever they are about to join bad gang or about to fall into hands of human traffickers who use to deceive them and give them false promises. Always talk to them to be more careful about the kinds of friends they use to keep. Device a means of reading their chats if they have started using android phones so it will keep you inform on the kind of relationships and friends they keep.
“Don’t s scold a child for reporting to you the molestation or abuse he or she is facing both in your own home or outside. Investigate such report and find out the truth. Also, make sure the sleeping arrangement in your home is ethical and proper and acceptable in order to avoid tuning your house into Sodom and Gomorrah”, he counselled.
