Indomitable philanthropist,medical doctor and founder of,Afreka International Humanitarian Foundation,Dr Reka Fodor,has said that the Archdiocese of Onitsha and the entire faithful,who she described as her “brothers and sisters”,occupied a special place in her heart as she prayed during the St Stephen day celebration in Hungary,her country.
Trinitas had called Dr Reka during the celebration fixed for August 20 every year,to know how the event which was a public holiday in Hungary played out.She expressed delight that everything was going on peacefully and that during a mass to commemorate the event,she remembered in her prayers,her Nigerian brothers and sisters,the Archbishop,Most Rev Valerian Okeke,priests and other humanitarian workers who are involved in welfare of the poor.
The St Stephen Day in Hungary is the nation’s celebration of her patron saint (St Stephen) and the foundation of the Hungarian state over 1,000 years ago.
As a national public holidays,masses were celebrated in churches in addition to fanfares and fireworks over the skyline.
It would be recalled that the Hungarian humanitarian mission to the Archdiocese of Onitsha led by Dr Reka Fodor has collaborated seriously with the Archdiocese of Onitsha in terms of upgrading the various health facilities in the Archdiocese.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha,Rev Fr Dr Izunna Okonkwo was on ground to represent the Archdiocese on the ocassion of St Stephen Day in Hungary.
