Rev Fr. Gabriel Ojonugwa Agbo celebrated the Mass of Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he leaned on the Gospel reading on ‘Can a blind man lead another blind man?’ in calling for examination of one’s conscience as a way of taking stock of one’s life.
Calling on the faithful to pay more attention to their words and actions than those of their neighbours, the visiting priest also tasked them on the right use of words, including when correcting those who are straying from the right path.
He said, “We need to concentrate more on ourselves than on others. We may not have the time to see the fault in our brothers and sisters if we consciously examine ourselves. Beloved in Christ, I want us to respond to the call to self-examination. It is good to examine ourselves and know who we are. It is on all of us to go deep into ourselves and clean our windows and lenses so that what we see will be clean.”
“You are a product of what you say. Some of castigate, judge and condemn others. But what matters is how we correct. Some people tolerate and some are intolerant. Some are always conscious of wrongs but some tolerate and still find a way of correcting people. You can choose to use positive words and they can make people better.”
