All the zonal branches of the catholic youth organisation of Nigeria, Onitsha Region have celebrated 2023 annual youth day in grand style. The ceremony which was chairmaned by Chief Chike Ebede of Aguleri started with a holy mass officiated by the Archdiocesean director of Cyon, Rev. Fr. Vincent Ezenwaka and the Parish Priest of St Jude Catholic church Fegge, Onitsha, Rev. Fr. Justin Oguama a.k.a Otingbodongbo
Preaching a sermon to mark the event, the Parish Priest of St Jude catholic church Fegge, Rev Fr Oguama enjoined the youth to live Christian ways of life, shunning all immoral behaviours, just as he extolled the leadership of the Archdiocesean director of Onitsha CYON, Rev.. Fr. Ezenwaka towards the upliftment of the youth organisation. Also speaking at the occasion, the member representing Fegge constituency in the Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon. Fredrick Chigozie Ezenwa advised the youth to live exemplary life, abhoring all acts inimical for good living. He reminded the youth that good deeeds are noted by God and man with rewards, promising to sponsor next year CYON annual youth day celebration.
The Chairman of the CYON 2023 youth day celebration, chief Chike Ebede, Ogbuefi Ugochimelueze in his speech underscored the importance of good morality among the youth, expressing optimism that Godly ways of life have rewards in the hereafter. Earlier in the address presented by the leadership of CYON Onitsha Region and signed by its President, Barrister Osita Paul and his secretary Onyinye Anozie, they noted that some challenges facing the youth have led them to crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, prostitution, drug abuse amongst other social vices.
. The annual youth day celebration which attracted youths from other segments of our society featuerd dancing and quiz competitions, as well as meritorious award to some persons both within the CYON Onitsha region and outside. Among the recepients of the CYON award were Chief Chike Ebede Ugochimelueze, Hon. Fred. Chigozie Ezenwa of Anambra state house of assembly, Mrs Chika Nwankwo amongst others.
