The leadership of the Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria (CWO) paid a courtesy visit to the new Secretary General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Fr. Michael Banjo, as a show of solidarity and support. The visit, which took place on January 24, 2025, coincided with the International Day of Education.
The National President of CWO, Dame Mary Asibi-Gonsum, who led the delegation, expressed her gratitude to God for making the visit a reality. She prayed for God’s guidance and protection for Fr. Banjo as he assumes his new role. “We advise you to always seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary when faced with any difficulty,” she said. “As mothers, we pledge our support to you as you pilot the activities of the church here in Nigeria.”
The Board of Trustee Chairman (BOT), Mrs. Comfort Gabriel Akpan, also offered words of encouragement to Fr. Banjo. “God does not choose perfect people,” she said. “Once God chooses, he goes with that person. God has chosen you among all the priests, and he will see you through. Just listen to him at all times and do not be overtaken by anything.”
The National Sister Adviser, Rev. Sr. Assumpta Taiwo, SSMA, on behalf of the National Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Jonas Unegbu, who was unavoidably absent, congratulated Fr. Banjo on his new appointment and wished him success.
In his response, Fr. Banjo thanked the CWO leadership for their visit and acknowledged the vital role women play in society, particularly in the upbringing and formation of children. “Women contribute more in the formation of the consciences of children,” he said. “Mothers teach children how to be contented, compassionate, and respectful. When children are properly formed, it helps them bring positive values to society.”
Fr. Banjo expressed his gratitude for the CWO’s support to the Catholic Secretariat over the years and prayed for continued collaboration. “I pray that the Lord will continue to bless what you do,” he said. “The CSN will continue to work closely with you, and I pray that the collaboration will continue to grow.”
The women jointly prayed for God’s wisdom, guidance, and protection on Fr. Banjo as he assumes duty as the new Secretary General of the CSN.
