Catholic priests in the Diocese of Boma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are celebrating a significant relief as they receive new motorbikes to aid their mission. These motorbikes will help them achieve the “Pastoral Proximity” policy, allowing them to reach remote mission stations more efficiently.
Previously, priests in Boma walked up to 40 kilometers to serve the faithful in some of the diocese’s most isolated areas. According to the Catholic Pontifical and Charity Foundation – Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) International, 35 of the 47 parishes in Boma Diocese are located in remote rural regions.
“The priests serve the faithful with joy and great zeal,” stated ACN International. “But the distances are great, the roads are bad, and some priests even have to walk up to 40 kilometers to reach the faithful.”
The new motorbikes are set to significantly ease these challenging journeys, ensuring that priests can continue their dedicated service to their communities.
