A catholic priest attached to SS John and Paul, lba Pope Awada, Rev Fr.Valentine Obiagwu has advised Nigerians to learn lesson from the recent national hunger protest on the way they vote for political aspirants on future elections in the country.
Reacting on the way the hunger protesters were treated in some parts of the country, especially Abuja, the Clergy regretted that the president did not even care to address the voters he solicited for their votes during the election, much more showing concern for their economic predicament occasioned by the removal of the petroleum subsidy
Fr Obiagwu faulted President Ahmed Tinubu for forceful removal of the fuel subsidy without putting in place palliative measures that would have checkmated its multiplier effects on the general prices of good and services as presently being experienced by Nigerians. He identifies the rehabilitation of the broken down refineries , herdsmen insecurity on farmers and other measures which would have addressed the current economic plight bedeviling Nigerians.
He advised the Federal government under Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the economic problem facing the citizenry, pointing out that a hungry man is an angry man and an angry man is a violent person. He condemned the tear gassing of the hungry protesters by the security operatives as though a beaten child has no right to cry. The world over, peaceful protest is accepted means the Citizen express their dissatisfaction over a particular government policy or action, including pressure groups. In his words, he warned, removal of the fuel subsidy is not the best solution in solving the country economic problems.
