The Bishop of Aguleri Catholic Diocese His Lordship Most Rev Denis Isizoh last Friday charged students to always embrace the culture of excellence and remain focused in their studies.
It was indeed a beginning of journey to success when Tansian University Umunya in Oyi local government Area, Anambra State matriculated 634 students of various faculties for the 2023/2024 Academic session.
The prelate gave the advice while preaching a homily during the 17th matriculation held by Tansian University Umuanya.
The prelate who was represented by his secretary, Rev. Fr. Michael Odenigbo described Tansian University as the institution of great repute, praising God for the gift of three institutions situated in Aguleri diocese which includes Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam and Tansian University Umunya.
He eulogized the founder of Tansian University, late Rev. Msgr. Professor Johnbosco Akam in a special way for his immense contributions to the betterment of humanity by establishing the University as well as lauded the staff and management for their efforts to sustain the integrity of the University.
The Prelate further urged the students to be focused and dedicated to their studies so that they become useful to their parents, themselves and society in general.
Presenting his address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Eugene Okoye Nwadialor extolled the matriculants for their successful admission into Tansian University, saying that they have made a wise choice to join a an institution dedicated to excellence, Innovation and the holistic development of individuals.
He described the matriculation ceremony as event not just the beginning of an academic journey but also the commencement of a transformative experience that would shape their lives in innumerable ways, noting that Tansian University was founded by late msgr. Prof. J. B. Akam to immortalize Blessed Cyprain Iwene Tansi.
He further reminded the students that the academic programs of the University are fully approved by the National University Commission (NUC) and other relevant professional bodies which he said are equally designed to challenge and inspire them.
The matriculants were equally made known that challenges are stepping stone to success, adding that with perseverance, hard work, prayer and right attitude they could overcome any obstacles.
The Vice Chancellor warned the new students that the institution maintains zero tolerance policy towards cultism and urged them to desist from any related cultism activities, Examination malpractice, academic dishonesty, even as he said such vices is a grave yard menace that undermine the values of education and safety of the University community.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Tansian University is a citadel of good living for all people without distinction, calling on the students to embrace the diversity; learn from one another, respect each other’s differences and foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Professor Nwadialor disclosed that the welfare of students have been taken care as it concerns hostel accommodation, health care, and sports, just as he said that parents forum is a kind of continuation of training, mentoring and nurturing students in what they have acquired from their various home.
High point of the matriculation ceremony was signing of symbolic matriculation register by representatives of each University faculties.
