Catholics all over the world on Thursday 15th of August,2024 commemorated the solemnity of the Assumption into heaven,of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of God.
At the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Valerian Okeke during a mass, charged christians to be the much needed drivers of change urgently needed in the country and the entire world in view of the various challenges facing humanity.
The Archbishop’s homily was delivered on his behalf by one of the 25th priestly anniversary celebrants,Very Rev Fr Anthony Chidozie.TheArchbishop who was unavoidably absent was represented in the mass by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese,Very Rev Fr Prudentius Emeka Aroh while the Chief Celebrant on the mass was Rev Fr Dr Augustine Onyiloha, also a 25th priestly anniversary celebrant.
The Archbishop said christians have a duty to champion the various revolutions ranging from moral, social and economic.
According to him, there are people whose preoccupation is to use their resources and positions to make life difficult for others just as others tend to grab everything to and for themselves due to greed and avarice.
In that regard, the Archbishop pointed out that owing to the infinite nature of God,men have always planned their way but that God’s own will prevails at last.
He urged the rich to show regard for the poor in their dealings with them since all blessings come from God,and may be taken away at any moment.
The Archbishop said,”If you think you have plenty of wealth, better lie low and don’t brag about it or disregard others who do not have but rather, keep giving thanks to God for what He has done for you”.
He reminded the faithful that life is ephemeral and that at a man born of a woman has a short time to live on earth.
Earlier,Rev Fr Anthony Chidozie in his introductory remarks had traced the celebration of the solemnity of Blessed Virgin Mary to the era of Pope Pius Xll who declared it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God,the Blessed Virgin Mary, was assumed body and soul to heaven thus prompting the commemoration by the universal church.
Chancellor of the Archdiocese,Very Rev Fr Dr Prudentius Aroh had also welcomed the anniversary celebrants to the Basilica and delivered the sweet sentiments of the Archbishop to them.
The 25th priestly anniversary celebrants cut across the Archdiocese of Onitsha,Nnewi and Aguleri Dioceses.
Highlight on the mass was group photograph and prayers for their departed class mates at the Archdiocesan cemetery,Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha.
