The Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province,most Rev Valerian Maduka Okeke last Friday,1st September 2023 clocked 20 years as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha.
He officially assumed office as Archbishop and Metropolitan of Onitsha on September 01,2003.
Before he assumed office as the Metropolitan Archbishop,he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Onitsha on November 28,2001 and consecrated Coadjutor Archbishop of Onitsha on February 09,2002.
Archbishop Okeke,a member of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN)is popular with his numerous transformational human and material achievements in the Archdiocese of Onitsha.
Top on his litany of achievements are,the new Shanahan University,the Holy Family Youth Village,Amansea Awka,the uplifting of the Cathedral to a Basilica,the Sapientia Radio/TV Oluchukwu Microfinance Bank and the Oluchukwu Oil and Gas.
The Archbishop’s strides in achieving excellence in education across schools and colleges in the Archdiocese is monumental and reckoned locally and internationally.
The Archbishop contributed significantly in the world wide rising profile of both the Archdiocese and the entire Ecclesiastical Province such that appreciable peace and stability has been reigning since his episcopacy.
He has been acting notably as a Peace Ambassador between the diverse Anambra State political class and has intervened severally on many thorny issues that had tended to divide the state in the past.
