Ruben Amorim has expressed confidence in Alejandro Garnacho’s potential at Manchester United, dismissing speculation about the 20-year-old’s future amid growing rumors of a move away from Old Trafford.
Garnacho made his return to the starting lineup during United’s FA Cup victory against Arsenal, a penalty shoot-out triumph, marking his first start since the 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest on December 7. In the interim, Garnacho had seen limited action, including being omitted from the squad for the Manchester derby, fueling suggestions that United might offload the academy graduate to address Profit and Sustainability Rule (PSR) concerns.
Despite links to Napoli and other clubs, United have rebuffed suggestions of a January departure for the winger. Speaking on Wednesday, Amorim made it clear that Garnacho has the qualities to thrive at United, stating, “That is clear. He has talent.” Amorim emphasized areas where the player is evolving, particularly in adapting to new positional demands and defensive responsibilities.
Amorim acknowledged Garnacho’s improvement, noting, “He needs to learn to play in a different position. He’s improving a lot in recovering his position when he doesn’t have the ball. But sometimes, that means he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he used to.”
The United boss highlighted Garnacho’s ongoing adjustments to the tactical system, balancing defensive duties with his attacking instincts. “He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during training. He started the last game,” Amorim added.
