The Fada Pita Charity Tennis Tournament, founded by Fr. Peter Muojekwu, celebrated another successful edition on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Held at Nnewi Sports Club under sunny skies, the event was reflective of the unity and direction of the entire organization.
The day began with a free medical outreach for the sick and disabled, offering checkups and medication. The tennis tournament, which kicked off on April 20 at Onitsha Sports Club, culminated in a thrilling final. Beverly Hills Recreation Club secured third place, Elite Club Onitsha took second, and Onitsha Country Club claimed the championship for the third consecutive year.
Following the tournament, Fr. Peter Muojekwu welcomed attendees and highlighted the organization’s various initiatives. These include a free summer tennis program in Chicago and efforts to promote the Igbo language and culture among Nigerian children in the diaspora through their YouTube channel, “Fada Pita Igbo International.”
Fr. Muojekwu also called for support to build a sports complex at the Nnewi Diocese Priests Center, intended for public use and as a recreational ground for elderly and retired priests.
Donations were presented to REDCOT Ozubulu, Okika Leprosy Center, Crowther Children Home Onitsha, and DCC Nnewi (Deaf and Dumb).
Hon. George Adidu, Vice President of the Fr. Peter Charity Tournament, expressed gratitude to the organization and its founder for their ongoing success and dedication to helping the less privileged. He also voiced a strong desire for the successful construction of the sports club edifice.
Chief Ikenna Ezeonu praised the event and expressed his hope for the continuity of the organization’s mission, wishing it to be passed down to future generations.
Sir Kingsley Ajulufo, the president of Onitsha Country Club, praised his team’s determination, which has led them to win the tournament for three consecutive years. He encouraged the wealthy and everyone who can make a difference in the lives of the poor and physically challenged to support the Fada Pita Charity Organization. “Everything is transparent,” Ajulufo said. “Once you bring your gifts or monetary donations, you’ll see them distributed accordingly among those who need them.”
When asked about the organization’s progress, Fr. Muojekwu said, “Everything looks promising so far. When I hear club members saying that next year will be better, it gives me great joy.” He spoke of his inspiration to bring people together to collectively reach out to the poor and needy, emphasizing the rich’s mandate to use their resources in service to others.
Fr. Muojekwu also announced the upcoming third edition of the Fada Pita Inter Academy Annual Competition on July 20, aimed at fostering academic excellence in children and providing schools with necessary resources.
