Christians have been charged to yearn for divine touch for their wholeness. The Vice Rector of St Joseph Minor Seminary Zaria, Rev Fr. Benedict Nkom gave this charge at the Mass he celebrated in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Sunday 30th July, 2024. He leaned on the day’s Gospel reading on the woman with the issue of blood in disclosing numerous benefits of being in touch with the Master.
Defining the touch of God as the overwhelming presence of God which leads to transformation and encounter, he explained that the woman with issue of blood insisted on touching Jesus because she had missed God so much that the only thing she could ask for was a touch. He then encouraged the faithful to imitate her and to also touch others in positive ways.
He said, “There is something about the divine touch of God which robs off on us especially in His Presence. This woman needed God’s Presence because there is fullness of joy in His Presence. If she had left without Jesus having a word with her, she would not have come to the full realization of God’s power.”
“Life ends when death touches one. So there is positive touch and there is negative touch. A lot of us are very hostile. Some of us leave people sadder than they met us. Some of us keep running away from the Sacrament of Penance and the Eucharist. Jesus wants us to recognize that some things will be missing in our lives if we do not allow the touch of God in our lives.”
