Tansian University Umunya in Oyi local government area, Anambra State on May 18, 2024 marked her 7th-12th combined convocation ceremony where the Labour party stalwart cum former PDP governorship candidate Chief Ozigbo and few others were honoured with honorary doctorate degree.
Others who received the honorary doctorate degree are Chief Dr. Emmanuel Okonkwo, Chief Simon Ogbogu, Sir. Kingsley Udechukwu, Rev. Barr. Ejike Nwachukwu, Adaora Offor Esq, Mr. Emmanuel Nwosu amongst other.
According to history of Tansian University, the name was given to the University in the memory of the Blessed Iwene Tansi who is their role model and first Nigeria religious Priest to be elevated to the status of “Blessed” by the Universal Church adding that the motto of the University is ” Knowledge is Power and Virtue”
Presenting his address, the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Eugene Nwadialor disclosed that more than 2,400 students graduated in the University, naming Anthonia Umeaso as the best graduating student.
He used the avenue to urge the graduands to sustain sound education which was impacted on them in their further life endeavour as well as remember to give back to the society, even as he mentioned infrastructural development and fund as the University’s bottle neck and solicited spirited individuals to assist the University.
Pro-chancellor of the University, Processor Nkechi Theresa Obiekezie and Rev. Fr. Dr. Edwin Obiora SAN who represented, His Eminence, Peter Ebere Cardinal Okpaleke and others as well presented speech during the ceremony.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the ceremony, the newly installed Chancellor of the University, Chief Sir. Victor Umeh described his new position as a call to serve God and humanity.
He also said, ” it is a call to put my time in something that is meaningful and important. A University is a citadel of learning where youths and young people are empowered with knowledge because youths are the future of any country and education is the bedrock of any developed country”
Recall that His Excellency, Valentine Ozigbo delivered convocation lecture at the eve of convocation during which he said, convocation is a unique ceremony not only for the University but for each of the graduands and their families.
He urged the graduands to embrace the opportunity ahead because the future lays in their hands, saying that younger generation should change the narratives of our country, Nigeria which he said could be graduates from Tansian University.
He also said that they should no longer wait for the elder ones, pointing out that the elder ones have mortgage the future and conscience of the young ones.
Dignitaries that attended the convocation ceremony included; various Chancellors from Universities, Rectors from Polytechnics, Provosts from colleges of Education, friends of the University, Captains of Industries Students and guardians.
