Christians have been charged to see everyone as worthy of salvation. Giving this charge in St Mary’s Catholic Church, Samaru Zaria, Monday, 22nd April, 2024, Rev Fr Jibo Dan’asabe leaned on the day’s first reading in which Peter referred to the pig as unclean in explaining that Christ died for the salvation of mankind and not for selected group of people.
He disclosed that some Christians do not want other people to share in the salvation that God brought for mankind, reminding them that they were made Christians at baptism just as others can become Christians in the same way.“Some of us see themselves as the most appropriate for salvation.” The priest observed. “This can be seen today in the lives of the disciples.
They see themselves as the chosen ones and do not want any other person to share in the salvation that Christ brought. We need to understand that salvation of Christ is for everyone. Christ came to save the human race from the damnation of sin.
Even though we are Christians, we should not see ourselves as the only people who will inherit the Kingdom of God.Christians are not born. They are made. We were all made Christians at baptism. It means anybody can become a Christian.
God gives salvation to whosoever He has chosen. Jesus is the sheepfold. So let us continue to pray for ourselves and for all those who with us in the spirit because God knows their hearts. Let us learn to bear with those who are weak and guide them. If you are strong, help those who are weak.”
