The embattled leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has said it will only take him two minutes to end the perennial insecurity in the Southeast region if released from detention.
Kanu said this when he appeared in court on Tuesday for his bail application which was later denied by the trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako.
Recall that his detention has been a contentious issue, and some believe that his release could be a political solution in addressing the rising insecurity in the region.
The Southeast zone has faced numerous challenges, from political unrest to economic disparities, which have contributed to a sense of instability.
Despite these issues, there are ongoing efforts by community leaders and government officials to address these concerns and find sustainable solutions.
Meanwhile, before his arrest, Nnamdi Kanu had grown IPOB into a global organisation.
For more than a decade, his fiery radio broadcasts and social media posts were thorns on the flesh of the Nigerian government but his transition to an armed struggle in 2020 was seen as a step too far by the former administration of Muhammadu Buhari.
The Eastern Security Network (ESN) which is the armed wing of IPOB has been accused of killing over 60 people most of them security operatives, although the group has denied the allegations.
