The Associate Rector,Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha,Rev Fr Victor Adibe, has reminded Catholic faithful that 40 days Lenten period is a time for reflections and stock-taking in their physical and spiritual lives.
Preaching a homily on Sunday at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha,Rev Fr Adibe pointed out that 40 days period as cited in various stories in the Bible are significant.According to him,Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days as He underwent trials and temptations as well as many other instances. The Lenten period he said, ushers the faithful into a new beginning and is an opportunity to add something new into the lives of the faithful.
“The Lenten period is a period of temptation and prayers. Many are taking decisions to avoid many vices and other behaviours like smoking, drinking, gluttony and stealing.Let us prepare ourselves for a new beginning”, he said. The temptation of Jesus Christ he continued, reminds us of the temptation of Adam and Eve such that it strengthens the faith and brings the best in us and a process of refinement.
He admonished the faithful saying,”Before you begin any endeavor in life, start it with prayers and fasting since we need to strengthen ourselves spiritually and physically and also learn not to fight temptation alone.
