The commander FRSC Anambra state command Corps Commander Adeoye A Irelewuyi on Wednesday warned motorists to avoid picking and making phone calls while driving.
The commander who spoke through Ag public education officer FRSC Anambra state command Route commander Margret B Onabe stated that making use of phones on the steering is not only dangerous but an act of violation of traffic laws.
He noted that good number of road accidents could be linked to usage of mobile phones on the steering, urging motorists to desist from such act.
He advised motorists to always pack by the side if the need to make or answer calls while driving is sacrosanct.
He made it that any gadget capable of distracting drivers should not be used while driving.
The commander further disclosed that there was reduction on the rate of motor accidents during the recent festivity when compared to previous years, attributing it to the committed efforts of command in ensuring that motorists obey traffic rules.
He noted that officers of the command were on ground at strategic junctions and flyovers in the state during Christmas and new year periods to ensure free flow of vehicles, adding that the efforts yielded huge fruits as motorists didn’t experience artificial gridlock.
He also disclosed that his command has been carrying out serious public enlightenment programmes on radio, visiting parks regularly to ensure fleet operators comply with the rules and regulations guiding them .
