Members of Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria( CYON) SS John and Paul parish Iba Pope Awada last Sunday, September 17, staged a colourful and interesting event to celebrate 2023 youth day.
The event attracted large number of youth who gathered to have a feel of the occasion.
The parish Chaplain Rev. Fr Dr George Adimike who spoke to Trinitas commended the youth of the Parish for the celebration of their annual youth day which featured many Igbo cultural heritage, including traditional dances and meritorious award of honours to some distinguished persons.
The catholic clergy assured the youth of his continued assistance to the members of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria, CYON, lba Pope chapter whenever the need arises.
The parish priest Fr Mbanusi in his remarks charged the youth to remain committed to their faith and be the light of the world, advising them to shun any unwholesome practices to make wealth.
Also speaking to newsmen at the occasion the the planning committee chairman Bro. Chinenye Ejinakam underscores the importance of the celebration of the youth day which he described as time they display a lot of activities. He listed some of the programmes of the day for entertainment of guests to include; cultural display, news- reading, presentation of lgwe and his lolo, presentation of the celebration cake amongst others
In the address of welcome presented by the President of the Parish CYON, Bro. Ebuka Orjiakor and his Secretary, Miss Ezewu Chioma, they listed some of their achievements and problems of the youth in the country. They specifically condemned the attitude of some youth who have resorted to sinful ways of making money such as, “oke ite and other fraudulent means of wealth acquisition, advising fellow youth to shun such unwholesome practices and embrace Christ unconditionally. Other youth who spoke to newsmen on the issue of youth day celebration included Chidinma Okonkwo, Ezeudu Chioma, Emma Obinna and Miss Chioma Ezewu amongst others. Highpoint of the celebration was the presentation of award certificate.
