The Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has said he has no issues with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Anambra.
He stated this in response to the Anambra State Council of NUJ’s allegations that his government did not have a human face as contained in the union’s communique after its July congress.
In the communique signed by the state chairman of NUJ, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the union accused Prof Soludo of running a government without a human face and not taking journalists and journalism seriously.
The union said its accusation was based plans by Soludo to terminate the appointments of journalists working with the state owned National Light Newspaper.
But Governor Soludo while reacting to NUJ in a press statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, said it was not true.
‘Mr Governor is a lover of Journalists and I can tell you that. The portrayals we are getting from the NUJ about who Mr Governor is, is not true.
‘Even the National Light Newspaper issue, I can tell you that it is being handled by the concerned ministries, and there is nothing to fear about.
‘It is not true for NUJ to start describing Soludo as being inhuman or being wicked. We have the best interest of the journalists at heart, and the governor is working to hold a meeting with journalists and also fashion out the way forward.’
Aburime commended journalists in the state for their solidarity so far, insisting that in the coming weeks, Soludo would unfold his agenda for the media.
