The Rector of Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Kaduna, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joel Haruna Usman has urged the faithful to make the choice of being friends of God, so that He may bless them with wisdom. He gave the charge during the Mass of Wake for late Mrs. Margaret Sheffi Olowu Daudu, which took place in St Endas Catholic Church Bassawa Zaria, Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The rector who was the chief celebrant was accompanied by other formators from the seminary, to commiserate with their friend, Patron of Catholic Men Organization (CMO), Kaduna Province and the President of CMO, Kaduna Archdiocese, Mr. Joachim Daudu and his family, over the demise of their mother, aged 89. He noted that Mr. Daudu’s personality is a testament of the kind of upbringing he received from his family.
“Our choices in life determine what we become.” The priest asserted. “You cannot make right choices if you do not befriend God, because He holds the keys to the mysteries of this world. So, if you want to live well in this world, you must befriend God, because God will bless you with wisdom and you will be able to navigate through life. So Mama was a very wise person. Nigeria needs people like this.”
“When you come from a good background, it will be written all over your face. People will know that you were properly brought up, even though some children decide to become something different, no matter what their families do. I have not read the biography of Mama, but from the son, and what he is doing, I could say, she was a very humble, loving and nice person. She befriended God and she was able to know the places she should be, the things she should do and what she should avoid.”
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the family, one of the deceased children, Prof. Malachy Daudu thanked the priests and participants at the Mass, praying that God may reward them abundantly. He disclosed that he, his siblings and children, will do all within their powers to uphold their mother’s legacies of unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of others, humility, compassion, faith and silent strength.
In support of the parish and the seminary, the family donated the money that was contributed for the family, as well as the sum of one million naira for the development of the parish and the seminary.
