A parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Dr. Blessing Aruya has called on parishioners to shun procrastination and do the work of God with the immediacy that it requires. She made the call, on Monday, October 6, 2025, while defining the keywords of the ongoing Catechetical Week in the parish.
Observing that some people postpone getting involved with the things of God and other good works, until a time that is continent for them, she urged them to reexamine their lives and turn new leaves where necessary.
“It is true that we have been serving God and doing a lot of holy things.” she acknowledged. “But we can become weak and lukewarm, sometimes. Some of us, Christians have become lukewarm in the things of God. We are quick to say that we do not have time for the things of God, or that we will do it tomorrow. So, during this Catechetical Week, the Church is calling us to reawaken our spirits, in case we have become lukewarm. This is the time to decide to be more committed to God, to a life of prayer, to a life of fasting, and to thanksgiving to God.”
“It is a call back to service to God and to humanity. Do not procrastinate. Do not wait to do the good works later. Procrastination is the devil’s way of creeping in and giving you more reasons why you should not do the right things. He uses procrastination to make us do things that will make us conclude that God will understand. The moment we start backlisting, the devil will see and give us more reasons to derail even the more.”
Dr. Aruya told them that every day they wake up is a day of thanksgiving because they are not better than those who did not wake up. She nudged them to see God as their Father as enough reason to reawaken themselves and those who have grown lukewarm around them.
