By Valentine Obienyem
After I posted 12 bridges constructed by Mr. Peter Obi and named the locations, a concerned Anambrarian sent me this message:
“Good morning, Val. On Oga’s bridges, there’s one in Okija—I don’t know its name. It’s along the road that runs from the church by the expressway through the market at the heart of the town.
How about the bridges at Umueje and Ugbenu/Ugbene? Did Obi not initiate the construction of the roads which succeeding administrations now pride themselves on completing? I say this because I personally witnessed those projects advance during Oga’s watch. This whole denial truly rankles. Thank God Oga has refused to be broken by the pains of such obvious falsehoods.”
I replied that I had only mentioned 12 bridges and challenged anyone who claims to have built more to name them. I shall shortly publish another 12 set of bridges. It is very simple: just give the names of the bridges and the towns or communities they connect. But when people want to lie, as they are known for, their usual refrain is: “He built over 15 bridges” or “He constructed over 1,000 kilometres of road,” when in reality they are not up to 300 kilometres. Roads and bridges without name.
Meanwhile, I saw a post about the Nengo Bridge. This is exactly what we are asking for – name the bridges, up to 12, and I will concede. Again, it should be noted that Obi constructed the road on which that bridge stands. He left just a few metres before and after the bridge, which were later completed by Chief Willie Obiano.
Let it also be clear: Val is doing this not out of idle argument, but to demonstrate that Obi performed excellently in Anambra and can therefore be trusted with the entire Nigeria.
The Initial Post
On Bridges
As Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi constructed exactly 28 bridges. Let me start with the first 12, until they can be matched.
I have deliberately named the towns where these bridges are located, or the communities they connect, so that the people of those places can confirm or expose any falsehood. Let our claims be verifiable.
Odor Bridge linking Awgbu and Amaokpala
Obibia/Ogbunabo Bridge linking Okpuno and Isuaniocha
Ezu Bridge linking Amansea and Ebenebe
Otupu Bridge linking Umueze–Anam and Mmiata
Otaro Bridge along Agulu–Ezechukwu–Ogboji road
Aghomili Bridge, Ndiopkaeze
Oji Bridge along Atani–Ozubulu road
Akpu–Ukwa Bridge along Atani–Ozubulu road
Aku–Akpu Bridge along Atani–Ozubulu road
Ishiagu Bridge
Agulu Lake Bridge I
Agulu Lake Bridge II
Note: The bridges mentioned were started and completed by Obi—not bridges like Achalla, which Obi executed over 80% before leaving office, having awarded the contract.
We do this only to prove that Obi not only performed creditably as Governor of Anambra but will also excel if entrusted with Nigeria. We must not allow dishonest people to paint him as one who achieved nothing in Anambra.
