Supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, under the umbrella of the Obidient Movement in Anambra State, marked his 64th birthday on Saturday with a series of charitable activities across Awka, the State capital.
In celebration of the occasion, the Group staged a solidarity walk through major locations such as Nkwo Amenyi, Aroma Junction, Ifite-Awka, and Eke Awka Market.
During the outreach, they donated essential food items including rice, noodles, biscuits, tomato paste, and soft drinks to underprivileged residents.
The Obidient Movement also visited Tender Touch Orphanage Home in Amenyi-Awka, Model Community Children’s Home in Ifite-Awka, and Awka Central Mosque, where they received warm welcomes. Leaders of the Muslim community praised Mr. Obi, describing him as a patriotic and detribalized Nigerian.
Speaking during the outreach, Dr. Decker Ezeadili, a member of the movement’s South East Advisory Council, said the initiative was in line with Peter Obi’s tradition of spending his birthdays with orphans and the less privileged.
“We are here to honor our principal, a man of compassion and vision. Mr. Obi has consistently shown love to the most vulnerable in our society. Today, we continue that legacy by bringing joy to these children,” Dr. Ezeadili said.
Another leader of the Group, Comrade Charles Obiora Anueyiagu, emphasized that Obi’s birthday is not just a time for celebration, but a moment for national reflection and hope.
“Peter Obi embodies the possibility of a better Nigeria. Through acts of charity like this, we demonstrate his enduring love for the country and his commitment to using power as a tool for transformation,” Anueyiagu noted.
He further disclosed that similar charitable activities were simultaneously carried out by Obidients in all 36 States, the Federal Capital Territory, and various countries abroad.
“This is a global movement. Obidients everywhere are inspired by Obi’s ideals of justice, equity, and nation-building. We remain hopeful that by 2027, he will have the opportunity to bring his vision for Nigeria to fruition,” he added.
At the orphanage homes, Stella Ezeugwu of Tender Touch and Grace Ndubisi of Model Community Children’s Home expressed their appreciation to the Obidient Movement for their kindness and extended warm birthday wishes to Mr. Obi.
The event was a testament to the growing influence and grassroots presence of the Obidient Movement, which continues to rally around the values and aspirations championed by Peter Obi.
