Catholics across the world last Sunday celebrated feast of Christ the King to demonstrate the indisputable kingship of Jesus Christ,their Lord and savior.
In the Archdiocese of Onitsha,the Corpus Christi procession was held in all the parishes as the parishioners trooped out enmass to celebrate the kingship of Jesus.
At the Cathedral Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Parish,Onitsha,the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Valerian Okeke led members of the clergy,the Religious and a large number of the faithful in a procession around the Basilica neighborhood.It was like a mini carnival as the faithful which included the knights and ladies,members of the CWO,CMO,CYON and various societies came out in their colourful uniforms chanting songs of praises and dancing to the glory of God.
Their joy knew no bounds as fireworks blazed in the skies as a Gospel band dished out families songs which set the event in top frenzy with some people nearly dancing themselves lame.
In a brief homily the Archdiocesan Chancellor Very Rev Fr Dr Prudentius Emeka Aroh challenged the faithful with a deep question asking them if they truly accept Jesus Christ as their king and saviour whose life and footsteps they must follow.
The Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Valerian Okeke in his remarks acknowledged the homily of the Chancellor saying it was not to be overemphasized and urged the faithful to remain steadfast in Christ’s kingship.The Archbishop
said that, “Christ is not just the king of the Universe,but also the king of our hearts.His reign is eternal,not marked by fleeting earthly power but by love,peace,and justice.
When we allow Christ to reign in our lives,we become ambassadors of His kingdom,a kingdom that will never end”.
Rector of the Basilica Very Rev Fr JohnBosco Ezika,the Vice Chancellor Very Rev Fr Dr Basil Ekwunife,the Onitsha Archdiocesan Financial Administrator,the Onitsha Archdiocesan Director of Social Communications Very Rev Fr Dr George Adimike,Associate Rectors Rev Frs John Ezeanowai and Samuel Nwankwo among other priests were present at the procession.
